In this episode, our featured voice is the Transitional Housing Program Supervisor of Uplift Family Services Faith Jackson. The focus of this week’s show is on how the covid-19 pandemic is impacting our youth and the nonprofit organizations that provide support services to help youth through this crisis.

Faith Jackson

Faith Jackson first came to Uplift Family Services (formerly Families First) June 2008 already having worked for 18 years in the greater Bay Area as a Group Home Manager and then a Group Home Administrator. Ms. Jackson now has over 30 years of experience and dedication to the Foster Care/Ward of the Court population. Recognizing the need of foster youth and effect on the population, she works with youth, both professionally and personally, at one time even becoming a foster parent for a former client who eventually became her "kid". She understands that many times, even after hundreds of thousands of dollars are paid to support the youth in various programs, their most prized possessions are simply thrown into a garbage bag and the youth shipped off to their next placement. After witnessing this unfortunate event too many times, Ms. Jackson began "bags for my babies", fueled by the fervent belief that every human being should have a decent suitcase to "pack" their belongings in. On the occasion they are able to travel, show up to college, etc., youth need to be able to move about the world with same confidence of every other passenger/person.

Faith continues to be committed to this population and she states that "after 30 years I think I've come close to the end… I continue to see the need and grow with them and pray I am providing the attention and care I've been given thru the years".

Uplift Family Services is one of the largest, most comprehensive behavioral health treatment providers in California. Each year, we do whatever it takes to help more than 35,000 children and family members manage and recover from challenges stemming from prior trauma—such as severe neglect and abuse—and learn the essential life skills they need to be successful at home, at school, and in their community.

Donation/Volunteer

Your support of Uplift Family Services helps buoy vulnerable families during turbulent times. In the midst of the COVID-19 crisis, families are grappling with the mounting pressure each day to make ends meet, maintain employment, access childcare, and secure their basic needs such as food and household supplies.

Our staff who work directly with the children we serve report that many of our families work in industries that are closed, like restaurants or retail, and worry about paying rent and utilities. Donations such as yours will help us provide essentials such as disinfectant, diapers, formula, Pedialyte, gloves, and toiletries as well as simple crafts and activities for children who are in the home – like paper, markers, books, board games.
