“I look forward to seeing how sort of the general public reviews, how they look at artists. And go, Oh, this is a valid life choice”

In this episode our featured voice is playwright, actress and executive director of the Left Coast Theater Company, Erica Andracchio who describes herself as the lady with many hats for a number of years now. “I started off acting and you know, when you're in high school and early college days it's, I'm gonna go to Hollywood and be a famous actress. And then you realize that doesn't pan out quite as easily as you think it does. Erica got very involved with, the San Francisco theater scene as an actress about fourteen, thirteen years ago.”

“Left Coast Theater company is exclusively an LGBTQ, plus a theater company that does works primarily new works. We're known mostly for doing anthologies, which is a like 10 to 15 minute short play over the course of one night. You'll see maybe six or seven of them under one theme.”

Left Coast Theater Company

Left Coast Theater Company is an award-winning, non-profit theatre organization that promotes the artistic work of the LGBTQ+ and allied communities in order to promote diversity, encourage dialogue and provide an opportunity for unique voices to be heard. Founded in 2012 by Rodney "Rhoda" Taylor and Joseph Frank, LCTC has evolved into a network of more than 150 local and international LGBTQ+ and allied playwrights, directors, actors, and theater creatives passionate about creating queer theater. While the company primarily strives to generate dynamic and original LGBTQ-themed anthologies and plays, LCTC also enjoys giving audiences an off-Broadway or off-off-Broadway LGBTQ+ themed play once a season.
Left Coast Theatre Company has produced many original anthology productions over the years for which audiences have called "important", especially those with San Francisco life as a central theme. In 2018 the company added a publishing branch to the organization and has now published 3 of their most well-received anthologies: "San Francisco, Here I Come!", "Screaming Queens", and "#WTFamily" for which the company won a TBA Award for in 2015.

At present, the company has taken this last year to reshape and focus attention on how to come back stronger from this pause forced on by the pandemic. While proud of the work that has been accomplished over 8 seasons, LCTC is now focused on work and stories that uplift the broader LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities. They are always looking for community partners and individuals who are passionate about producing original theater in San Francisco, if you have any interest in working with Left Coast, please send Erica an email at erica@lctc-sf.org.

I want to see stories I’ve never seen before. And I think that the industry because we’ve all sort of sat down and taken a hard look at ourselves, especially after the ruthless murder of George Floyd and everything that transpired last summer.
I really feel that the industry needed a shakeup and as horrific as that experience was, it shook the industry as well it shook the world, but it also shook the theater industry.
