“I am very fortunate to say that there have been at least in our immediate circle, no groups that have just had to throw in the towel”

In this episode our featured voice is Executive Director of InterMusic SF Cory Combs. We wanted to host InterMusicSF because they are another one of our long time performing arts organizations that is focused on the incubation and support of our music groups. InterMusic SF is also participating in the Theater Bay Area’s Performing arts worker relief fund to help raise funds to support musical artists just like Dancers’s Group for dancers and ZSPACE for performing artists

InterMusic SF

InterMusic SF is a San Francisco Bay Area non-profit organization that advocates for those who create, share, and love the art of small ensemble music. InterMusic SF acts as a catalyst to help local artists thrive via career development and creative collaboration.

In 1998, three longtime San Francisco Bay Area music patrons, Jane Roos Le Roux, Jane Galante and Barbara Barclay, recognized that while chamber music ensembles contribute significantly to the cultural life of the Bay Area, they generally lack the tools and staffing for audience development; and because most are not tax-exempt entities, they are rarely in the position to garner the contributed support that organizations in other disciplines receive.

The founders saw a distinct need for a local service organization to support this art form in the Bay Area, and launched the San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music. The organization has grown significantly in ambition and impact since its founding, garnering national recognition with Chamber Music America’s prestigious CMAcclaim Award for extraordinary contributions in the field of chamber music.

In 2017, we adopted the name InterMusic SF in order to ensure that our identity would better reflect the stylistic and demographic breadth of the community we have steadily evolved to serve.

Our programs include:

The Fiscal Sponsorship Program (FSP) supports, nurtures, and advocates for emerging and established professional ensembles, individuals, and organizations who share InterMusic SF's commitment to the advancement of small ensemble music as an art form.

SF Music Day, our annual free music festival, celebrates the Bay Area music community and engages local audiences to explore and savor the diverse range of music being made in our region.

The Musical Grant Program awards project grants to support the creative musical activity of San Francisco Bay Area performers, composers, and presenters whose projects focus specifically on music for the small ensemble.

Our funders have been so generous with large donations and continued pledges. So, it hasn’t fixed everything. Of course, people need to get back to work as soon as possible, which maybe knock on wood is going to start happening. But at least we were able to help bridge the gap for many, many artists that needed some direct aid
— Cory Combs, Executive Director, InterMusic SF
