Fathers & Families of San Joaquin
Fathers & Families of San Joaquin (FFSJ) works every day to reclaim our destiny by using our culture to heal, organizing with hope, and building people power.
At Fathers and Families of San Joaquin, we give our people a reason to live with purpose. Alongside our youth, adults and elders, we promote the cultural, spiritual, economic and social renewal of Stockton and the greater San Joaquin Valley. Our shared struggle connects us all. You can count on Fathers & Families to show up, hold space and to speak truth to power.
FFSJ is a progressive, solution-oriented community organization working on the front lines of racial justice, community healing, trauma-informed care, community re-entry, and education equity in the City of Stockton, the surrounding San Joaquin Valley and throughout California. FFSJ provides socially- and culturally-relevant human services that help build a foundation for intergenerational healing and leadership. FFSJ mentors community members to work in unity with other organizational partners to end widespread poverty, employment disparities, inadequate access to public health services, and high rates of incarceration in communities of color. The organization has been recognized as a leader in alternative interventions and programs to reduce recidivism among formerly incarcerated men of color, and for innovative youth development approaches focused on healing, culture and community leadership. FFSJ expanded to include a Trauma Recovery Center, one of 11 in California, and is posed for more rapid growth in the years ahead.
FFSJ’s ’s story is one about respect, dignity, trust and love. In a society that teaches us to hate ourselves, learning to love and heal ourselves and our community is a revolutionary act. We welcome everyone with open arms especially those who been forgotten and give folks a reason to live with purpose.
In our Stockton, it will be easier to find fresh fruit than a weapon. In our Stockton, every young person will go to a school that invests in their potential. In our Stockton, everyone is valued and respected. No longer will our neighbors be punished for being poor or criminalized for being a person of color. Instead, we will be a community that shows up for each other, learns to heal, and owns our power to create the Stockton that we can all take pride in. We ask you to join us.
