The Star Trek Fan Club had revenue streams based on membership, print advertising sales and merchandise sales from the Star Trek Fan-zine, which included a catalog. Our challenge was to continue to engage and grow the membership of the fan club, secure more advertisers, develop promotional programs, work with fellow Star Trek licensees as well as expand the product mix in the catalog. The goal was to leverage the passion of the target market of Trekker Fans for the Star Trek Franchise especially while it was at the height of its market share of SciFi fans with the four different Star Trek Programs Star Trek Next Generation, Star Trek Deep Space Nine and Star Trek Voyager and of course everyone’s favorite Classic Star Trek.
Under a consulting contract with the Star Trek Official Fan Club licensee I worked closely with both the Star Trek Fan Club licensee and Paramount Pictures Licensing staff to identify key players within the hundreds of other Star Trek Licensees. I worked closely with the Star Trek Fan Club licensee to develop a marketing and sales program for advertisers and promotional partners. and advertisers to develop advertising, promotional and product placement into the Star Trek Fan-zine. This lead to a 70% increase in advertising sales and the development and execution of integrated promotional contests with product licensees and advertisers which in turn increased both membership and the sale of products from the catalog.
