George Koster

As a community volunteer in the Lake Tahoe / Truckee community, I created and led the Squaw Valley Museum Foundation where I formed a non-profit corporation, recruited board of directors, developed a grant and secured over two hundred and fifty thousand dollars in seed funding for the development of an official Squaw Valley Olympic Museum. Additionally, I worked with the US Olympic Committee to secure the merchandising rights for the 50th Anniversary of the 1960 Winter Olympics at Squaw Valley, and I developed a line of official merchandise and recruited a regional wholesale and retail distributor to sell throughout region. In addition to my work on the Squaw Valley Olympic Museum, I also served on several nonprofit boards such as Workforce Housing Association of Truckee Tahoe, where I developed and executed housing policy with both the Town of Truckee and Placer County redevelopment agency. Furthermore, as board member of the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association I advised on the management of a four million dollar plus budget for marketing and infrastructure projects to support the north Lake Tahoe community. I also participated in the North Tahoe Main Street Program to promote economic, social and environmental revitalization. I was voted both Volunteer of the Year in 2006 and Citizen of the Year in 2008 by the North Lake Tahoe Chamber of Commerce.
